This feature is available on the "Insights" tab, under the "Spending" filter. Cake currently offers "Top category spending" and "Top merchant spending" insights.

The initial version of these insights only provides a monthly view. We are however working on the ability to switch these insights between a monthly and a yearly view. You can follow the progress of this improvement here: https://feedback.cake.app/forums/924664-open-roadmap-cake/suggestions/41670913-show-me-yearly-insights

It would obviously make a lot of sense to introduce pie charts in a product called Cake, but…

In our research, we have discovered that the cognitive load it requires to read a pie chart is considerable.

You basically have to link the piece of the pie with the right subject, and compare this with other pieces… which you also need to link.

We respect a 3 second rule for understanding all Cake insights. The pie chart fails this test.

In future we might introduce pie charts when comparing 2 elements; for example providing an overview of irregular versus recurring expenses.

For now, we will park this idea.

We're currently working on introducing an additional filter for the "spending compare" feature.

We will introduce "budgets" in a separate release (later), but the goal is to use the same design principle.

Our main goal is to first introduce our users to a simple view, and allowing the user to activate different overlays of complexity: average, benchmark, budget.

As most banks are now moving to interfaces that provide us multiple months of data, we're moving this up in the planning.

Each year, I would like to get a crisp update of my cashflow. This is simply my income minus my spending, and this for the previous year. The cashflow will let me know if I'm spending more (or less) than received across all my bank accounts.

The "Summary since last paycheck" insight has already been designed. We're currently preparing the technical design.

Cake will try to identify your "pay day". As a user, you will however be able to define this yourself.

Note (from Cake): This is similar to the "Summary for {Month}" on the main screen. It's specifically for the people who receive they pay check at the end of the month.

The European Bank Authority (EBA) has clarified to the banks that access to credit cards should be provided under the existing PSD2 legislation.

We’re expecting the first banks to start providing access the credit cards in early 2022.

The European Bank Authority has clarified that the banks have to allow customers to connect their credit card with Trusted Third Parties (TPPs) like Cake. We are expecting the first interface in early 2021.

Once these are available, we will be able to enrich and categorize the individual transactions on your credit cards.

Note: We have already enabled this feature using the "Preview Program" (under "Settings"). As only a limited number of banks currently support this functionality, we are using the preview program to collect feedback and share this with the banks.

I would like to be able to search for any information available in Cake; merchants, categories, places, transactions, insights, annotations, receipts, tags, etc.

It should additionally be possible to define the scope of my search; for example only search for a specific merchants, and display all transactions related to this merchant.

This feature lists the current categorization model. We will however continue to revise and improve this model.

If you have any feedback or suggestions related to the categorization model, feel free to add them in the comments of this feature.

We are going to implement transaction tagging to allow you to track expenses across the categorisation model. This feature is described here:

    https://feedback.cake.app/forums/924664-open-roadmap-cake/suggestions/39260587-tag-transactions-to-track-specific-related-spendin

I will try to see wit the team if we get this implemented in September or October.

The list is indeed long (information overload), but you should never be confronted with this entire list in our app.

This is a hierarchical list that drills down from the 19 top categories. In several interviews and discussions with customers we have learned that allowing the main categories to be split-up in more fine grained categories is very important.

    Peter commented  ·

The following modifications have been implemented:
    - Added Dentist. As a "dentist" does not fit in the category "doctors and hospital".
    - Separated Fines from tax to be it's own category. As "fines" aren't taxes.
    - Changed city tax to municipality tax. As "city" is a too narrow term.
    - Separated books from Newspapers and magazines. This enables the separation of one off vs subscription based purchases.

The following modifications have not been implemented:
    - Create a children education category. We have an education category. We do not want to limit it to being only for children: university, extra training, getting certificates, are for all ages.
    - Adding Gifts to income category. Gifts would only require manual labeling. This is an edge case. Also limiting gifts to Income would mean outgoing gifts can be wrongly categorized.
    - Separate fuel for electric cars. We take fuel as the broad term; fuel is whatever makes your vehicle drive (including gas and electricity).
    - Add extra tax categories. We have no access to the specific tax content of a person's tax payments, we only see it as a payment to the tax-office, the separation is hard to make.

    Some general feedback:
    - We want to keep the categories broad and fairly mutually exclusive.
    - For more specific cases we have purposely created the "(other)" function for all parent categories.
    - As we aim for a quick European expansion, we won't implement categories that are specific to a single country.

In addition, my company will be displayed as data dividend partner in the Rewards section of the Cake app. This transparently allows all Cake users to see which partners contributed to the data dividend.

We have reviewed this idea in the past, but didn’t found it very insightful.

In most cases, a similar insight reveals a repeating shark fin pattern. On Payday, you typically see a big spike… and the rest of the month is a slower curve down.

We are looking for input when/how this would be insightful.

I would like to visualize the evolution my bank account over a specific period. The period can be changed to visualize the evolution on a daily, monthly or yearly basis.

This would allow me to preserve history of value of my wallet over time. I want to know how much money I had on my bank account x days/week/months ago. This is something my bank does not provide today.
